The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is an awesome series. No, not the movie that was mushy and about not much at all... the radio series, TV series and books. If you haven't read, seen or heard any of those - go do that.

The guide describes the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster as a potent drink invented by Zaphod Beeblebrox. The effects have been likened to having your brains smashed out with a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.

If you're having a restaurant at the end of the universe party (or any hitchhikers guide related party for that matter) - this drink is a must.

Christmas! Well, December... close enough. Any excuse to bake things really. If I was a shopping centre, this would be 3 months too late.

I love mince pies. They're just great, can't get much better than that really. Turns out you can. Turn mince pies into macarons, and its a dreamy spiced fruity delight to stuff in your mouth. Why stop at 4? eat the whole batch, thats really Christmasey!

Tim Burton's latest creation - Frankenweenie - has been released. I'm yet to see it, but it brings back memories of Beetlejuice, one of his earlier films. All fused into one dessert.  A bite size (well that will depend on the size of your bite) Beetlejuice tart. Complete with wiry, crazy, spun sugar on top for hair.

These are amazing, a punch in the face of to die for cherry brandy flavour in a silky meringue buttercream base. The cake itself is a work in progress, I think I overmixed this batch so it was a bit tough so I'll try again (oh shucks do I have to? any excuse for more cake)

Lorraine Pascal was a guest chef on Masterchef's Masterclass last week, cooking her Mojito Genoise. A delicate light sponge soaked with a mojito flavoured sugar syrup topped with a lime buttercream frosting. Needless to say I went right out and bought the ingredients, determined to adapt it into a cupcake version, and here it is.

I planted a dwarf Meyer lemon tree some time ago, and after what seems like forever I finally have some ripe lemons! I think some lemon curd is in order.
